QR Codes are becoming mainstream

I wrote a blog post about QR codes, QR Codes: Should a Marketer Care?  Since that post, I have noticed an increased presence of QR Codes.  I do not know if it is because I am more aware and looking for them, or if in fact they are truly becoming mainstream.

At the grocery store the other day, I saw that Chiquita bananas is running a recipe contest.  The bananas have little stickers with a QR Code that can be scanned to link a mobile device to the contest page.  Chiquita has really tapped into an innovative way to disseminate a lot of information to consumers requiring minimal space.  Have you ever been bored on a work break, you brought a banana as a snack and now you are sitting with the peel of the banana… Why not scan the QR Code?

Or, if you are having lunch and want to have something to do or a conversation piece, why not scan a QR Code.  While having lunch at Boston Market the other day, I noticed that they had table signs encouraging customers to scan the QR Code for holiday tips and special offers.  My mobile device just happened to be sitting right next to the sign.  How convenient.  Keep your eyes open, they seem to be popping up everywhere.
